this is not a business was a former group under WACK, and the first to be signed to the company alongside pla2me. Unlike other WACK units, they were an all-male rock band.

They were also known as "Tengu Band" (天狗バンド) due to every member's face being obscured by tengu masks.

History[]

2013[]

This is not a business were unveiled on March 3, after having been formed on an unspecified date in February. The staring line-up consisted of Kato Kouban, Pito Townzen, Kisu Richa, Jinshi Mozu and Jou Nima.

The music video for their first song, WITH A MISSION, was released on April 17 and received 100,000 views in a single day, giving the band attention from news sites. The song was released as a digital download on their website the same day. Soon after the release of the song, the "first-generation" Katou Kouban left the band.

A second music video and free download, REDorBLACK, was released on May 7. As of this song, the "second-generation" Katou Kouban joined. The song was followed by MaD TeENAGe RIOt on May 21.

On June 8, this is not a business performed for the first time at the Guru Guru TOIRO in Saitama Super Arena.

Their debut album, 10 goods, was released on July 21.

On October 9, this is not a business released their first physical "one-coin" single, Business, exclusively with Tower Records.

2014[]

This is not a business' second album, WELCOME TO THE TENGU WORLD, was released on January 28.

A second "one-coin" single, very.nice.good., was released exclusively at HMV on March 26.

On May 14, their third album, DEATH MARCH, was released.

On August 8, this is not a business, alongside pla2me, were the first artists to be signed to their manager, Watanabe Junnosuke's newly-formed music production company, WACK.

Drummer Shadou Sumi joined the band on August 22, 2014.

On December 28, this is not a business made two important announcements during their set at COUNTDOWN JAPAN 14/15; they would make their major label debut in early 2015 with Nippon Crown, and that Jou Nima had received a job offer overseas and would be withdrawing from the band immediately.

2015[]

On January 20, an official signing ceremony took place outside of Yokohama Arena. Accompanied by their manager, Watanabe Junnosuke, this is not a business drove to the building in a limousine and signed their contracts with the noses of their masks.

Their major debut album, THIS IS NOT A BUSINESS, was released on March 11.

On June 29, Kato Kouban left this is not a business due to creative differences. The following day, Watanabe appeared on stage and announced that he was the "first-generation Kato Kouban" all along, and took over as the band's vocalist.

This is not a business' final album, O, Nedan Ijou. Tengu, was released on August 5.

A new vocalist, described as the "third-generation Kato Kouban" made his debut on September 7.

On November 24, this is not a business suddenly announced onstage that they were immediately disbanding. One of the reasons given was "we are not a business, but I want to do business things". Afterward, WACK became a company that produced exclusively female idols.

Trivia[]

  • Was the first all-male group to ever exist within WACK. The only other unit of its kind is Beat mints boyz.
  • Would make heavy use of the word "good", using it in music, promotions, tweets and casual conversation.
