midoriko, originally known as MiDORiKO EMPiRE, is a Japanese former idol who was previously under WACK, as a member of ExWHYZ.
midoriko joined WACK in August 2017, after being added to EMPiRE's starting line-up. She remained in the group until their disbandment in June 2022, then immediately joined ExWHYZ afterwards.
Biography[]
2017[]
On August 23rd, MiDORiKO EMPiRE was revealed as a founding member of EMPiRE. Unlike any of the other members, she did not take part in WACK Audition Camp 2017, auditioning specifically for "Project aW".
On December 6th, her first recording as part of EMPiRE, "EMPiRE is COMiNG", was included on the WACK shuffle album, WACK & SCRAMBLES WORKS.
2018[]
MiDORiKO EMPiRE's first album, THE EMPiRE STRiKES START!!, was released on April 11th, 2018.
On October 16th, 2018, MiDORiKO modelled for NEGLECT ADULT PATiENTS at Amazon Fashion Week.
2019-2020[]
On February 28th, 2019, MiDORiKO EMPiRE's first single, Pierce, was released.
From March 22th to 28th, 2020, MiDORiKO participated in the WACK AUDiTiON CAMP 2020 as a mentor.
2021[]
In mid-June, MiDORiKO EMPiRE, along with every other active WACK member at the time, joined the shuffle unit, Dogenzaka43. Her only single as part of the group, Kyouniku Jakushoku ~Tsuyoi Yatsura wo Kucchimae~, was released on June 16th. At the end of June, her's official Instagram was launched.
2022[]
On May 30th, EMPiRE suddenly announced that they would disband in three days. MiDORiKO's future with WACK was left uncertain, with details on each member's post-group activity to be determined at a later date.
Upon EMPiRE's disbandment on June 2nd, MiDORiKO EMPRE joined a new unit, ExWHYZ, alongside the rest of the remaining members. The following midnight, she dropped the "EMPiRE" from her stage name, performing as simply "midoriko" from then.
In early August, midoriko was diagnosed with COVID-19, resulting in a performance of ex-EMPiRE members at that weekend's Tokyo Idol Festival to be cancelled. Later that same month, she went on an indefinite hiatus, citing a chronic illness that had got worse.
2023[]
midoriko's hiatus ended on January 12th, when she appeared at the finale of ExWHYZ's XYZ Tour.
In late July, it was announced that midoriko would be going on a health break due to her worsening chronic illness. On September 7th, it was further announced that midoriko would go on another indefinite hiatus until her health improves. Unlike the previous year, it was stated that she would still participate in recordings and filming when possible.
2024[]
On August 7th, midoriko announced that she would be leaving ExWHYZ and WACK to improve her medical condition.[1][2]
Personal Life[]
midoriko considered herself a rebellious child and refused to go to high school, staying at home and watching TV instead. She loved dancing and took part in hip-hop dance lessons during elementary school. She quit dancing during high school, as her health was deteriorating from her not leaving the house.
Before joining EMPiRE, midoriko worked part-time in a wedding hall.
As midoriko complies with Japan's 10pm curfew law, she is suspected to be under the age of 18. However, the public reason she gives is that she doesn't want to miss her favourite TV shows.
