2022[]
ExWHYZ were announced on June 2nd, 2022. During EMPiRE's disbandment concert, WACK director Watanabe Junnosuke appeared on stage, thanking fans for their five years of support, before subsequently announcing that everyone from EMPiRE's final line-up would form a new unit, named ExWHYZ.
ExWHYZ would be under the EMI label, instead of Avex like EMPiRE previously were, and, following one last tour from EMPiRE's former members, they would begin activities in late Summer. Immediately after the disbandment, EMPiRE's social media accounts were changed to become ExWHYZ instead, and the members dropped the "EMPiRE" from their stage names.
After a period of promoting as "ex-EMPiRE", the start of their activity as ExWHYz officially began on August 17th, with the announcement of their first album and tour, and the release of their debut digital single, Wanna Dance.
On August 26th, ExWHYZ announced that midoriko would go on hiatus due to a worsening chronic health problem.
A second song from ExWHYZ's upcoming album, Obsession, was released digitally on October 4th.
ExWHYZ's debut album, xYZ, was released on November 2nd.
2023[]
Following the end of their xYZ Tour, midoriko resumed activities with the group, and an updated version of their debut album, xYZ [hYPER EDITION], was announced. In addition, ExWHYZ revealed that they would be the first WACK idol group to perform at Nippon Budokan (second WACK unit overall, after PEDRO).
xYZ [hYPER EDITION] was released on March 1st. It included all songs re-recorded to include midoriko's vocals, and one new track, "Secret Secret". Just a few days later, three weekly consecutive digital singles, ANSWER, Des Speeching and FIRST STEP, were announced to be released through late March and early April.
On April 1 it was announced that ayuni would join the group, and her debut live on same day. After her debut performance, it was revealed that she would immediately leave due to communicating with positive people causing her heavy mental strain (aka. It was an April Fool's joke). The following evening, their second album, xANADU, was released on digital platforms. As well as the regular edition of the album, a "xYD EDITION" of the album, featuring ayuni's vocals, was also released for 300 yen until April 18th. xANADU will have a general release on April 19th.
ExWHYZ's Budokan performance, The FIRST STEP, took place on May 13th.
On July 5th, ExWHYz released the digital single, Furachina Summer.
In Mid-July, midoriko went on another hiatus due to her worsening chronic illness. Unlike the previous year, it was stated that she would continue to participate in recordings and filming when possible, only being absent from live events.
Two more digital singles, Moonlight, Sunlight and NOT SORRY, were announced on August 18th with release dates of August 23rd and September 8th, respectively. Upon NOT SORRY's release on September 8th, ExWHYZ announced an additional mini-album, HOW HIGH?, containing the past three digital singles and four new songs.
HOW HIGH? received a surprise digital pre-release on October 8th, before being released physically on October 18th. Two days later, a new digital single, As you wish, was released.
On November 16th, ExWHYZ performed in London, England for the first time, as part of the WACK in the UK event.
2024[]
ExWHYZ released a digital single, Our Song, on January 12th. The following day, they announced a new album, Dress to Kill. This was marketed as a "variety" album, due to its mix of new songs, covers and remixes.
On August 7th, midoriko announced that she would be leaving ExWHYZ and WACK to improve her medical condition.
