Beat mints boyz was a unit formed by WACK producers Watanabe Junnosuke and Matsukuma Kenta, initially for the WACK & SCRAMBLES WORKS album. Afterwards, the group help occasional performances at some WACK-related events, and it was also temporarily used as a pen name in songs for other acts that were written by the two members.

Beat mints boyz, as a unit, has been inactive since 2019, though Watanabe and Matsukuma continue to frequently work together on other WACK-related projects.

History[]

Watanabe and Matsukuma first began working together in 2008, when they both worked at Beat Mints Studio, owned by the record label D-topia. After both of them left the company, Watanabe recruited Matsukuma to create music for Pour Lui, beginning in 2009 with her debut single, Kagirareta Toki no Naka de☆.

In late 2017, Watanabe and Matsukuma recorded a cover of BiSH's Spark for the WACK & SCRAMBLES WORKS album. This was the first instance where they were credited as Beat mints boyz, rather than JxSxK and Matsukuma Kenta. After the release of the album, Beat mints boyz would occasionally perform at WACK-related events such as WACK no Fes, and would also begin to be credited as "Beat mints boyz" in the liner notes of songs they wrote together.

Sometime towards the end of 2018, liner notes stopped using the Beat mints boyz name and returned to crediting the duo as "Matsukuma Kenta and JxSxK".

In June 2019, Beat mints boyz recorded an alternative version of BiSH's upcoming album, CARROTS and STiCKS, and released it at the same time during the album's pre-release period. As both versions were identical in appearance, there was no way to tell the difference between the Beat mints boyz and BiSH versions of the album until after it was purchased. The Beat mints boyz version of the album was also placed on Apple Music.

Trivia[]

  • The name "Beat mints boyz" is named after the Beat Mints Studio where they first began working together.
  • They are the second all-male group to ever exist within WACK, the first being this is not a business (which Watanabe also provided vocals for).
